A WPI-8 certificate is a certificate of compliance issued by the Texas Department of Insurance, or TDI. It verifies that a structure was built or repaired to applicable windstorm building-code standards. The certification process
The process usually starts with a WPI-1 application filed with TDI to obtain an App ID for the project. Once that is in place, the roofing work must be completed to TDI wind-resistance requirements, including approved materials, proper fasteners, and correct nailing patterns. During the project, a licensed professional engineer or TDI-qualified inspector reviews the work to confirm compliance. After inspection, the inspector or engineer submits the required documentation to TDI. If the submission is approved, TDI issues the WPI-8 certificate. In many cases, the certificate is posted to the TDI website roughly one to two weeks after approval. Because timing and documentation matter, it is important to plan the job correctly from the beginning rather than trying to fix compliance issues after the roof is installed.
